Ever seen an Instagram bio with bold or cursive letters and wondered how they did it? Instagram doesn't actually have a font menu — those are Unicode characters that look like fonts. Here's how to use them in seconds, no app required.
Why Instagram "fonts" actually work
Inside Unicode there are letters shaped like bold, italic, or script versions of the normal alphabet — originally made for things like math notation. Because they're real characters (not images), you can copy and paste them straight into your bio, and they show the same on everyone's phone.
Step by step
- Open the Fancy Text Generator and type your name or bio text.
- Browse the styles — bold, italic, cursive, double-struck, and more are generated instantly.
- Tap the style you like to copy it.
- In Instagram, go to Edit Profile, paste it into your Name or Bio, and save.
That's it. The same trick works for your username display, story text, and even comments.
Tips to look clean
- These styles work best with English letters and numbers — most don't convert other scripts.
- Pick widely-supported styles (bold, italic) if you want it to look right on every device; very unusual styles can show as boxes on older phones.
- Don't overdo it — one styled name plus a normal bio reads better than everything in script.
Add a little extra
Want symbols too? Drop a few aesthetic symbols like ✦ ♡ ⋆ around your name, or add a text face such as (。•ᴗ•。) at the end of your bio for personality. To decorate a whole name automatically, try the Nickname tool.
Save the styles you use most with the heart (♡) so you can grab them again next time you refresh your profile.
