How to Decorate Your Messaging Nickname (WhatsApp, Discord & More)

Your display name shows up everywhere your friends see you — on WhatsApp, Discord, and social profiles — so even one small special character can change the mood. Add stars, hearts, or sparkles around your name and an ordinary name starts to look special.

The fastest way: the Nickname tool

Finding and combining symbols yourself is surprisingly tedious. Type your name into Nickname and it creates several versions wrapped in stars, hearts, and brackets at once. Tap the card you like to copy it, then paste it into your profile name field — on WhatsApp, Discord, Instagram, and more. Hit "shuffle" to keep seeing new combinations.

If you want to build it yourself

To choose your own symbols, copy hearts, stars, and brackets from the Symbols collection and place them on either side of your name. For example: ꒰ name ꒱, ♡ name ♡, ⋆｡˚ name ˚｡⋆ — matching both sides symmetrically keeps it balanced and pretty.

A few cautions

Too many symbols make your name hard to read. Keeping it to one or two is the way to get both legibility and style. Also, some special characters may show as boxes depending on the device or app, so after pasting, it's worth checking how it looks to a friend. Some apps and games also restrict which symbols are allowed — if one won't enter, try another.

Tap the heart to save combinations you use often to Favorites. When you feel like changing your name, you can pull them right up.
